Odie
When an opening for the position of mouser came up at the Jasper Avenue location it was time to bring another cat into the family at Wee Book Inn. Through the Edmonton Human Society we found a perfect candidate in a copper and white calico, but a suitable name was still missing. It is tradition for the Wee Book Inn cats to be named after famous players from the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, and this time we took a customer poll to see where things stood.
Taking 37% of the vote our new feline friend was given the name "Odie" in honour of James Ogilvie "Odie" Cleghorn (b. 1891; d. 1956). As part of his career Odie played ten seasons with the Canadiens and helped them defeat the Calgary Tigers in 1924 to win Lord Stanley's Cup for only their second time.
